Roofs on Canford Heath’s estate homes
The estate wraps around the heathland nature reserve that gives the area its name, with Tower Park close by. Houses, bungalows and maisonettes built in the 1970s and 1980s tend to share the same kinds of roof.
Things that wear out on homes of this age:
- Concrete tiles: interlocking tiles that lose their surface and gather moss as they age
- Ridges and verges: mortar bedding that cracks and lets tiles work loose
- Underlay: felt beneath the tiles that can sag or break down at the eaves on older roofs
- Garage and porch roofs: flat felt roofs, many laid decades ago
- Roofline: timber fascias, soffits and gutters dating from when the house was built
Garages, porches and extensions
Many plots here have a flat-roofed garage, a porch canopy or a later extension. Water can pond on these roofs, get in at the joint with the house wall, or come through where old felt has cracked.
When you get in touch, say which roof is leaking and roughly how old it is if you know.

Canford Heath roof questions
My garage’s flat roof leaks. Can it be patched?
Sometimes a small split can be repaired. If the felt is failing all over, the roofer may suggest re-covering it in felt, rubber (EPDM) or fibreglass (GRP). Ask them to explain each option.
There is moss all over my concrete tiles. Is that a problem?
A little moss is mostly cosmetic, but thick growth holds water and ends up in the gutters. A roofer can remove it using a method that suits the tiles.
The mortar on my ridge is cracking. What happens next?
Loose ridge tiles can let water in and may come off in high winds. A roofer can re-bed them in mortar or fit a dry ridge system, and explain which suits your roof.
Can the fascias and gutters be replaced at the same time?
Yes, ask about it when you enquire. If the roof work needs scaffolding or a tower, doing the roofline at the same time may be worth discussing with the roofer.
Do you do the work yourselves?
No. We pass your enquiry to an independent roofer who covers BH17, and any quote, price and booking are agreed between you and them. Read how our referral service works.
